immerseyourselfincode is now immerseyourSOULincode

I’d like to apologize for this, as I realize name changes on Tumblr are annoying. It breaks links across blogs, creates confusion, and wastes social capital. However, the name for my blog is a twist on a line from a Radiohead song, from which I have misquoted the main noun in a way that immeasurably weakens the phrase. I’m updating my theme with a design that displays the name above the feed, so I can’t really carry on this mistake.

There’s a hidden programming lesson here, in that naming is at the very heart of the art form, as it is a cousin to literary prose. The meaning and quality of your work depends on getting every word right. Whether you take a high or low view of this importance speaks to your attitude about the artform, as apposed to simply the engineering or maintanence aspects of the job. More importantly, when you decide that you’ve done something wrong, it will be dangerous and possibly expensive to correct depending on how fundamental the name is to your project (worse of all, when it is a project name). It takes guts and courage to make breaking changes, especially with live production code (as everything increasingly is these days) - and the only way to create is by moving forward, not getting stuck in your past decisions.

Not that changing the name of my blog in anyway amounts to any of that.

Really, I’m sorry :P
